The purpose of this National Leadership Council on African American Behavioral Health (NLC) project was to gain a better understanding of the behavioral health needs of African Americans and their families through a series of focus groups and concept mapping exercises. Concept mapping is a structured approach to representing ideas in two-dimensional space through the creation of maps derived from multivariate statistical techniques. Focus/concept mapping groups were held with African-American peers in recovery, family members, and service providers in five cities across the United States ( Atlanta , Austin , Columbus , New York City, and Washington , D.C. ). This report contains the results of the concept mapping exercise.
